CountryTown in partnership with iHeartCountry Australia is proud to announce singer-songwriter, Mickey Guyton as our Artist Of The Week, following the release of her debut album, Remember Her Name.

Born and raised in Texas, Guyton began singing and performing in church choirs as a child. She moved to Los Angeles after graduating high school to pursue country music professionally while attending university, before moving to Nashville in 2011. She released her debut EP, Unbreakable in 2015. Her 2015 single, Better Than You Left Me reached #34 on the US Country Airplay Chart and earned her a nomination at the ACM Awards. That same year, her second self-titled EP was released.

In 2020, she released the single Black Like Me, which speaks on her experiences as a black woman, particularly a black woman in country music. It was released in the wake of the George Floyd protests and the Black Lives Matter movement. The song helped further elevate her career and resulted in her first nomination at the Grammy Awards, becoming the first black woman to ever be nominated in a country category.

Her third EP, Bridges was released last September and features the critically acclaimed What Are You Gonna Tell Her? She further made history as the first black female country artist to perform her own song at the CMA Awards. Guyton also collaborated with Dean Brody on his song Boys, as well as with Breland on the duet version of his single, Cross Country.

The 38-year-old released her first full-length album on September 24. She co-wrote 15 of the project’s 16 songs, which also includes a rendition of Beyonce’s hit, If I Were A Boy, and a reprise of Guyton’s own debut single, Better Than You Left Me.

She says, “Remember Her Name is a culmination of the last ten years of my life in Nashville. This album is the closing of a chapter. All those years ago, I set out to create music that would make people feel self-empowered, loved, and comfortable with being themselves and this album holds true to all of that. I hope everyone who listens finds something that connects and speaks to them.”

Guyton welcomed her first child, a son, Grayson, in January with her husband, Grant Savoy.
