CountryTown in partnership with iHeartCountry Australia is proud to announce Maren Morris as our Artist Of The Week, following her nominations at the 2021 ACM Awards for 'Female Artist of the Year'; 'Video of the Year' for Better Than We Found It; 'Song' and 'Single of the Year' for The Bones, and 'Group of the Year' with The Highwomen – the country music group comprised of Morris, Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires, formed in 2016.

The Highwomen was an idea of Shines, who wanted to create a female country supergroup in homage to the legendary Highwaymen (Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson) due to the lack of representation of women artists on country music radio and at country music festivals. The group made their live debut in April 2019 at Loretta Lynn’s 87th birthday concert held in Nashville, and released their self-titled debut album later that year. The album peaked at #12 on the ARIA charts in Australia.

Morris released her first solo album, Walk On in 2005, with featured her debut single My Church. Though it wasn’t until she released her five-song EP in August 2015 – which gained 2.5 million streams on Spotify in a month – that attracted the interest of major labels. Her first major label debut album, Hero and was released to critical acclaim in 2016. Hero earned Morris four nominations at the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Her follow-up album, Girl (which featured the charting single, The Bones) led to a worldwide six-month concert tour of the same name.

Morris and fellow country singer, Ryan Hurd married in 2018 and have one son called Hayes. The couple released their first duet called Chasing After You last month, which they recorded in their basement.

Hurd says, “This song has been something that we've done a couple recordings of over the years and have never released it; we felt like it was time. It's been really cool because I've had a creative relationship with Maren first, and then it became something else. Now to be connected like this, in this way musically, is really special."

Chasing After You follows her previous collaboration, Line By Line with Canadian singer-songwriter and musician, JP Saxe. Morris will perform at the 2021 GRAMMY Awards on March 15, with The Bones also nominated for ‘Best Country Song’.
